Q: I entered in my serial number and it says it's incorrect!
A: Make sure your distinguishing the number "0" with the letter "O". If the serial number was emailed to you,
the easiest way to enter it is by copying the number from the email reciept and pasting it into the TCM Formula Finder program when prompted.
If you're typing it from the inside of the CD case, note that the zeros will have a slash through them, and letter "O" will not.
Q: The program says "This copy of TCM Finder is currently installed on another computer. It must be deactivated before it can be installed on this computer."
A: Fear not! Each serial number allows the software to be installed on one machine at a time. If you want to move your copy to another computer, you must "deactivate" the serial number first by selecting the "Customize" pull down
menu in the program and selecting "Deactivate This Copy". Once the copy is deactivated, it will unlock the serial number for the next installation.
Q: Why are there a bunch of files inside this folder? Which one do I click on to launch the program?
A: Your computer is showing hidden files and we need to hide them again. It's easy to do it:
Windows XP
1. Click 'Start'.
2. Open 'My Computer'.
3. Select 'Tools' menu
4. Click 'Folder Options'
5. Select the 'View' Tab.
6. Check 'Do not show hidden files and folders' in the Hidden files and folders section.
7. Click 'OK'.
Windows Vista
1. Click on the Start button. This is the small round button with the Windows flag in the lower left corner.
2. Click on the Control Panel menu option.
3. When the control panel opens you can either be in Classic View or Control Panel Home view:
If you are in the Classic View do the following:
1. Double-click on the Folder Options icon.
2. Click on the View tab.
3. Go to step 4.
If you are in the Control Panel Home view do the following:
1. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link.
2. Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders.
3. Go to step 4.
4. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Do not show hidden files and folders.
5. Click OK and you're done!
** The file you want to click on inside the folder to launch the program is called TCM Formula Finder NOT TCM Formula Finder Data.
Q: I'm seeing a bunch of squares after words in Chinese/pinyin. What's going on?
A: Those squares are suppossed to be Chinese characters. They are not showing up because a Chinese font is not installed on your computer. To install the font:
1. Click on the Windows Start menu.
2. Click on the Control Panel.
3. If in Category View ("Pick a Category"), click on Date, Time, Regional and Language Options, then click Add other languages.
If in Classic View or Menu view, click on Regional and Language Options, then click the Languages tab.
4. Click on the checkbox next to Install files for East Asian languages.
5. Click on the OK button.
6. You may be asked for your Windows XP installation CD.
7. After this process your system will need to restart.
Q: Help! I forgot my password!!
A: No problemo! We made a back door to reset your password.
1. Launch the program.
2. Go to one of the pulldown menus on top that has the choice "About TCM Formula Finder" and select it.
3. On the page that comes up, click the "bibliography" button on the bottom.
4. On the last line of the bibliography, "27." click on the "1995" at the very end of the line and a box will come up asking you for a new password.
